Dr. Kevin Obiero

Dr. Kevin Obiero is a Research Scientist with a PhD Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Dr.nat.techn.), University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria (2019), M.Sc. Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya (2012) and a B.Sc. Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya (2007). He has gained extensive project management experience by completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Project Management. He also attended an advanced training for governance and policy-oriented studies organized by Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR). During his academic and research experience spanning over 10 years, he has collaborated in the development of donor funded research projects at national, regional and international levels e.g. ASARECA, STRECAFISH, KAPAP and KCSAP Projects. He has authored over 30 scientific publications i.e., 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, 12 books/book chapters, > 20 conference proceedings, technical and consultancy reports. Dr. Obiero has won several awards and grants to attend international conferences, seminars, short courses and training programmes. He is member of Aquaculture Regional Working Group (ARWG) for the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization (LVFO) and a member of Training Selection Committee (TSC) for the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP). He holds membership in six professional and academic bodies and is a Board Member for the African Center for Aquatic Research and Education (ACARE).
Currently, he is the Station Coordinator at Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), Sangoro Station in-charge of coordinating research, administrative and financial functions to ensure research activities are aligned to the Institute’s strategic plan, vision and mandate. He has conducted extensive research in Sustainable aquaculture intensification, Aquaculture Information Systems, Fish Marketing and Trade, Gender-based Value Chain Analysis, Aquaculture Policy Advocacy, Climate-smart Aquaculture Technologies and Agri-based food systems.
